Transforming Homes

Co-designing with Knowle West residents to retrofit early 20th century social housing stock using bio-based materials.

The Transforming Homes research project is part of a two-year funded initiative bringing together expertise from architecture, engineering, social science, sustainability and residents to deliver a place-led and community focused appraoch to retrofit innovation. Using demonstrator homes in Knowle West, Bristol – we have piloted various scales of intervention to achieve low carbon solutions that has been co-designed with residents. Our tenure blind apporach ensured that various types of owners or residents can adopt the archetype-based approach to their 1920-1930s home.
