Mikhail Riches won the competition to design 20 new townhouses as part of the redevelopment of the former BBC Television Centre in White City, West London. The scheme will sit on a triangular plot next to the Hammersmith and City Tube line south of the Grade II-listed 1950s television studios. Two rows of terraced homes present the same façades onto a landscaped triangle at the front, whilst the differing contexts for each terrace impacts on their interiors and at the rear; the East terrace (situated closest to the railway viaduct) comprises courtyard-style homes in order to help reduce the effects of noise, whilst to the West, deeper houses enjoy double height family rooms overlooking back gardens.
“The team are enormously talented and seem to understand modern living and what people want whilst also producing fantastic architecture that tugs at the heart strings. Despite this fact, Mikhail Riches lack any arrogance and are thoroughly sensitive to you as the client and your needs.”
