Matt McCallum

Architect

Following his undergraduate degree in Dundee, Matt worked with Tierney Haines Architects in Dublin where he was involved in multiple private residential projects from the restoration of Georgian and Victorian country properties to the completion of a certified passive house.

For his diploma, Matt returned to Glasgow to study at the Mackintosh School of Architecture with an exchange in Vienna to study at the Akademie Der Bildenden Künste. During this time, he explored ideas of ruination, collective memory, and intervention whilst also finding a passion for narrative and material innovation within a thesis exploring sustainability and recycling on a city-wide scale. Matt directed a short film to explore the themes present in his thesis which was later exhibited at the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2018.

Since graduation, Matt has worked on a range of projects in London from residential and workplace to a combined church and hotel scheme in Lambeth. Outside of the office, Matt directs and produces a student-run video magazine and podcast called Mies. UK which produces documentaries and interviews architects and designers in the UK. The episodes are broadcast on Austrian television and shown online and at special screenings, most recently the Tallin Architecture Biennale.

Alongside his practice work, Matt is currently undertaking his part III studies to become a fully qualified architect.
