Kate Altmann

Senior Part 2 Architectural Assistant

Kate joined the practice this year, having moved from New York where she worked on small residential projects on site. Kate has worked on a range of residential, public and institutional projects; a particular highlight being involvement in the successful competition for Gallaudet University whilst at Hall McKnight in London.

Kate graduated from Cambridge and later became the Bass Fellow in Architecture at Yale University where she gained her Master’s. Kate’s research has focused on the possibility of fostering community inclusion for individuals with mental illness through housing-based interventions. While at Yale, Kate was a founder of the Yale Mental Health Symposium, a collaboration across the university which seeks to promote interdisciplinary dialogue surrounding mental health and the built environment. Kate explored alternative financial models to provide local health services and affordable housing at the national Department of Housing & Urban Development Affordable Housing Competition, where her team was a finalist.

At Mikhail Riches, Kate is working on the early stages of a residential masterplan where she is enjoying learning how complex projects on sensitive sites are brought to fruition.
