Duncan Street – Mikhail Riches

Introduction

RHM won this invited competition for 10 new affordable houses, judged by the residents themselves. The scheme for Urban Splash and Maritime Housing Association is part of a large regeneration project in central Liverpool.

The families often go back two or more generations on this site, which, due to high land values and its proximity to the centre of Liverpool is seeing massive, high-density development. First consultations have identified access issues, individual desires, pets, and children as well as expectations and very strong community links. The challenge is to sustain this community and what makes it special in the midst of upheaval.
